How should I respond to lower offer email
Oct 12, 2012 09:27 PM

I have had email asking if I would consider selling item for less than I have listed it for.  The item is in basic auction with no bids yet but does have several watchers, I know that does not mean anyone will actually bid but its a fair price that I would be happy with.  What is the procedure with this sort of thing & whats best way to politely respond please?

Hi,

It's up to you.

If you don't want to accept the offer then just politely say that you prefer to let the auction run.

If you are happy with their offer then you can revise the listing, change the start price to that agreed and once they have bid 'end the listing early to sell to the highest bidder':

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/end_early.html

As you say, watchers don't necessarily lead to bidders, but most bids are placed in the last few minutes of an auction.

Hi

I have it listed for the minimum price I would be happy with at this stage and the email has not actually stated an amount so I have no idea what he intended to offer he just said lower that listed.

I think I will just decline this time and take my chances with the watchers.

I am enjoying my selling experiences but have loads to learn it seems.

Many thanks for responding.

tell them no thanks the price you listed is what you would want for it if it does not sell.
